There are many wonderful things about Bradbury House care home, but one of them is definitely the brilliant and central location. Our warm and friendly home is nestled in the heart of Old Beaconsfield, just a few steps from the historic church of St Mary’s and All Saints, and the beautiful town, with its shops, restaurants and regular markets.
Beaconsfield is a thriving community with events throughout the year to bring its people together. Most recently, we enjoyed the Festival of Lights, an annual event that takes place every December. This is an evening that celebrates the coming of Christmas where local shops remain open late, and schools and organisations come together to raise money for charity and enjoy carol singing and parades.
This Christmas period, we have also been lucky enough to have visits from local young people to bring some festive cheer. The students of Beaconsfield High School music department entertained us with their singing. And a Brownie group sang carols for us one evening over supper time. To be thought of in this way is so special for our residents, particularly during these difficult times. With some of them seeing less visitors than usual, hearing the voices of young people singing Christmas carols is hugely moving and special. Bradbury House also has a close relationship with other local schools and nurseries including Davenies School and Northgate House Nursery.
The weekly market in Beaconsfield is just a few metres from Bradbury House, so our more mobile residents enjoy visiting. There is also a monthly Farmers’ Market that takes place on a Saturday and is held in the same location. The market brings together local businesses and producers and is a firm favourite with many residents.
In August, Bradbury House is always pleased to get involved with the Annual Beaconsfield Country Fayre, which has been held on the August Bank Holiday for many years. Organised collectively by the Rotary Club, Beaconsfield Round Table, Friends of St Mary’s and The Beaconsfield Society, this is another community event designed to bring the town together and raise money for good causes. The Stretcher Race is a highlight!
The support of our local town has never been more keenly felt that during the past couple of years with the pandemic. It has been a very difficult time for older people and the gifts and good wishes we have received, as well as visits from many of the local schools has been so appreciated.
